ARC is delighted to be partnering with a long-established and highly respected Building Services contractor to recruit a Senior Mechanical Estimator for their Colchester office.

The Role

As Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will lead the mechanical estimating process on a wide variety of Building Services projects, producing accurate, commercially competitive tenders from initial enquiry through to contract award.

Working closely with senior management, design teams, suppliers and subcontractors, you will take ownership of multiple tenders simultaneously, ensuring all submissions are technically compliant, commercially robust and delivered within strict deadlines.

You will also provide technical guidance throughout the tender process and play an important role in supporting the continued success of the pre-construction department.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of detailed mechanical estimates for a range of Building Services projects.
• Analyse tender documentation, specifications and drawings to develop accurate cost plans.
• Produce detailed take-offs and evaluate project requirements.
• Source, negotiate and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Prepare comprehensive cost comparison schedules and tender analysis.
• Raise and manage technical queries and Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Contribute to design development where required to ensure fully compliant tender submissions.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative design solutions.
• Present tender submissions and commercial recommendations to senior leadership during adjudication meetings.
• Support the successful handover of awarded projects to operational delivery teams.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator who is confident managing complex tenders and enjoys working within a collaborative and professional environment.

You’ll ideally have:

• 5+ years’ experience within a Mechanical Estimator role in the Building Services or M&E sector.
• A strong understanding of mechanical building services systems and construction methodologies.
• Proven experience preparing competitive tenders across a variety of commercial and public sector projects.
• Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to identify risk and opportunity.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive, organised approach with the ability to prioritise multiple tender submissions.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Electrical Estimator – Cambridge

The Role
As Electrical Estimator, you will play a key role in the pre-construction team, responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a range of electrical packages across major projects. You will work closely with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure commercially viable and technically compliant tenders are submitted.

This position will be based from the company’s Cambridge office, supporting projects across multiple sectors.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed electrical estimates and tender submissions
Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation
Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
Identify value engineering opportunities and commercial risks
Liaise with clients, consultants and internal delivery teams
Support bid presentations and tender negotiations
Maintain accurate cost databases and estimating records

Requirements
Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within the M&E / Building Services sector
Strong understanding of electrical systems and construction processes
Experience pricing large-scale commercial, industrial or infrastructure projects
Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills
Ability to work to deadlines within a fast-paced environment
Relevant industry qualifications preferred

Design Manager – M&E Building Services

Location: Cambridge
Sector: Building Services / M&E

Cambridge-based opportunity – candidates must be locally based or able to commute to Cambridge. Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position, so applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered.

An established and growing M&E building services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join its Cambridge-based team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong M&E professional who enjoys managing the design process from concept through to delivery and wants to play a key role within a growing business.

The Role

As Design Manager, you will take responsibility for coordinating and managing the M&E design process across a range of projects, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and internal project teams.

You will be responsible for ensuring designs are technically robust, commercially viable and delivered in line with programme requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing M&E design packages from initial concept through to construction and completion.
• Coordinating mechanical and electrical design information across projects.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, calculations and technical submissions.
• Managing external design consultants and specialist subcontractors.
• Coordinating design information with project managers, estimators and site teams.
• Identifying design risks, clashes and potential issues before they impact delivery.
• Attending design and project meetings with clients, consultants and other stakeholders.
• Supporting the commercial and project teams with technical input and design development.
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and project specifications.
• Managing design programmes and ensuring information is issued in line with project requirements.
• Providing technical support throughout the construction phase.
• Assisting with value engineering and identifying opportunities to improve project delivery.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong background within M&E / building services, with previous experience managing or coordinating the design process on commercial construction projects.

The business would consider candidates from a range of backgrounds, including:

• M&E Design Management
• MEP Design Management
• Building Services Design
• Mechanical or Electrical Design Engineering
• Senior M&E Engineering roles with significant design coordination experience
• M&E Project Management with a strong technical/design focus

You should be comfortable working across both mechanical and electrical disciplines, although candidates with a stronger bias towards either discipline will be considered.

Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks or other M&E design/BIM software would be advantageous.
