Transport Planner – Containers

We’re recruiting for a growing logistics business looking to add another experienced planner to their operations team. This isn’t a role where you’ll just sit updating spreadsheets all day — you’ll be right at the centre of the operation, making decisions, solving problems, and keeping drivers and customers happy in a fast-moving environment.

What the day-to-day looks like:
- Coordinating container movements in and out of the ports
- Managing vehicle schedules and keeping operations running efficiently

- Booking port slots and monitoring movement timings
- Keeping service levels high while balancing commercial performance

The ideal person will:
- Understand container haulage and UK port operations

Experience with TOPS or similar planning systems would be useful, but industry knowledge and the right attitude are just as important.

Traffic Operator
Are you an experienced Traffic Operator looking for your next challenge within a fast-paced container transport environment?
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing logistics business based in Felixstowe. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy operations team where you’ll play a key role in coordinating container movements, maximising fleet utilisation, and ensuring exceptional service delivery to customers.
Working within a dynamic transport office, you’ll be responsible for managing daily transport operations, liaising with drivers, ports and customers, and ensuring that all planned movements are completed efficiently and cost-effectively.
The Role
As a Traffic Operator, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and coordinating container movements from the UK’s major ports, including Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway.
- Managing vehicle schedules to maximise utilisation and profitability.
- Maintaining regular communication with drivers and ensuring strong working relationships are developed and maintained.
- Proactively resolving operational issues and responding to changing customer requirements throughout the day.
- Booking Vehicle Booking System (VBS) slots and ensuring all bookings are accurate and compliant.
- Monitoring service performance and ensuring customer expectations are consistently met.
- Working closely with colleagues across the transport operation to ensure smooth day-to-day running.
About You
We’re keen to speak with candidates who have:
- Previous experience within container haulage, transport planning or traffic operations.
- A good understanding of UK ports and VBS booking systems.
- Experience using transport management systems, with knowledge of TOPS being advantageous.
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to remain calm and prioritise workloads in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Good IT skills and confidence working with transport software systems.
- A proactive, motivated and solutions-focused approach.

Transport & Operations Planner

We’re recruiting on behalf of a successful and growing UK manufacturer that supplies major construction projects nationwide. Due to continued expansion, they’re looking to appoint a Transport & Operations Coordinator to become a key member of their Operations team.
This is far more than a transport planning role. You’ll be the vital link between Production, Warehouse, Procurement, Sales and Transport, ensuring customer orders move smoothly from manufacture through to delivery.

The Role
Working closely with the Operations Manager and senior leadership team, you’ll coordinate the day-to-day movement of customer orders while ensuring production, warehouse and transport activities remain aligned.
You’ll be responsible for keeping customers informed, supporting operational planning and making sure information flows efficiently across multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily transport schedules, deliveries and collections
- Work with production teams to ensure customer orders are completed and delivered on time
- Liaise with drivers, customers and third-party hauliers regarding delivery schedules and operational updates
- Assist with route planning and vehicle utilisation
- Monitor production progress and communicate any changes or delays
- Coordinate warehouse dispatch activities and ensure delivery documentation is accurate
- Support stock movement administration and inventory accuracy
- Maintain transport and operational records using internal systems
- Act as the communication hub between Production, Warehouse, Procurement, Sales and Transport
- Deliver outstanding customer service through proactive communication and problem solving
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys coordinating multiple activities while remaining calm under pressure.
You’ll be confident communicating with colleagues at all levels and capable of managing changing priorities within a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
You’ll ideally have:
- Previous experience coordinating transport within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment
- A good understanding of how production, warehouse and transport functions work together
- Experience working with production schedules, customer deliveries and operational planning
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
Desirable
- Experience within steel, construction materials, heavy manufacturing or industrial production
- Knowledge of warehouse operations and stock control
- Experience using production planning or transport management systems
- Understanding of transport compliance and legislation
