The flexibility of driving with ARC made a career in haulage a no-brainer for our driver Paula Iona.
Paula made the switch to driving lorries with us back in 2023, after she was inspired to make a living through her favourite hobby – driving on the open road.
The added flexibility of being an agency driver with ARC, she said, is the cherry on top when it comes to what makes a career in haulage so appealing.
She said: “I love it. I’ve always enjoyed driving, so when I considered that I could get paid to do it, it was an easy decision.
“I love to see the world and enjoy the flexibility of being an agency driver with ARC. That’s especially important being a mum with young children – it means I get to spend more time with them.
“It’s a really supportive industry too – there’s a real community. Plus, it pays well.”
In her role at ARC, Paula has worked both as a tramper and day driver, regularly traversing across the country for our clients.
Paula added in just two years she has seen a big rise in the number of women entering the industry, adding she and her friends are considering starting a new club for female drivers.
She said: “There’s a lot of female drivers now. It’s really nice to see.

“I know it’s a new thing, but it feels completely normal. We’re all used to seeing fellow women on the road and waving to one another.
“I’ve even met husbands and wives who are both drivers!
“I know a lot of women might not be able to imagine themselves driving a big lorry – but it’s actually really easy.
“You receive great training, the trucks are all new and have automatic transmissions and you have lots of support behind the scenes.
“I would definitely recommend it.”
